L-Leucine

One EAA, also one of the three BCAAs

Leucine is an essential amino acid in the branched-chain group. It is present in protein foods and in BCAA and EAA mixtures. Its role in discussions of muscle protein synthesis makes it a common label term in sports nutrition.

Signal and building material

Leucine is prominent in discussions of muscle protein synthesis, but signaling and the supply of all building blocks are distinct questions. The dedicated synthesis article addresses this distinction; the EAA hub checks composition and the food guide compares practical portions.

Leucine is not dileucine or HMB

Leucine, the leucine dipeptide dileucine, and the metabolite HMB are distinct ingredient identities. A branded dileucine amount or a calcium-HMB salt weight should not be read as a leucine dose. Use the HMB article for its population-specific research and label analysis; a shared connection to leucine is not evidence that the interventions have interchangeable effects.
